Research object is the problem of interethnic xenophobia in modern Kazakhstani society.

Research subject is to study the problem of interethnic xenophobia and ways to overcome it based on the best practices of the OECD countries.

Research goal is to analyze the problem of interethnic xenophobia, to develop an effective mechanism for countering xenophobia in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Tasks:

  • determine the main phobias in Kazakhstani society and analysis of social and economic conditions for the development of xenophobia;
  • create a map of regions and communities, ethnic groups and social strata of the population exposed to the risks of xenophobia spread;
  • analysis of the impact of labor migration on the development of xenophobia and the interethnic situation in the republic, including in the context of regions;
  • determine the level of xenophobia in different social and ethnic groups in Kazakhstan;
  • form a network of permanent experts and community activists capable of developing projects and working with communities to overcome the threats of xenophobia on a long-term basis;
  • development of specific proposals and recommendations for the prevention of xenophobia among young people and teaching them a culture of peace, to instill a culture of peace, respect for religious views, culture, lifestyle in a multi-ethnic society with an emphasis on risk groups (migrants, repatriates, rural residents, residents of small towns ).

Research methods: mass survey of the population of Kazakhstan with a republican sample of 3,200 respondents; a survey of 20 experts in the field of media and interethnic relations; 50 in-depth interviews (25 interviews with ethnic repatriates and 25 interviews with labor migrants).

Sample

The sample size was 3,200 respondents. The territory of the sociological study covered all regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan: 14 regions and 3 cities of republican significance (Astana, Almaty and Shymkent).
